The Chief Dan George Chess Tournament on April 1 was a huge success! Over 130 students participated from grades 1 to 12. Thank you to Mr. Glum, Mr. Arnold and all the staff and volunteers from Chief Dan George Middle School for putting on such a first-class competition. 

Reading Olympics

All students who read certain amounts to reach the gold, silver or bronze level received a medal (K-3) or ribbon (4/5).
All students who read were entered into a draw. This year we had three prizes, one for K/1, one for 2/3 and one for 4/5. Each prize consisted of a glow in the dark blanket and a book. 

A team from Auguston went to the Clearbrook Public Library for the Library Reading Link Challenge on Wednesday, March 8. Way to go team! Thank you to Mrs. Deol, Div. 4 teacher, for leading our students in this event.

Keeping the district’s focus on equity in mind, the Dr. Thomas A. Swift Elementary school community has taken on a small project of our own. Together with a couple of other elementary schools, we are using picture books to dive into topics of diversity and equity.

Congratulations to all the Grade 4 & 5 students who participated in the School Reading Link Challenge put on by the Fraser Valley Regional Library and thank you to Mrs. Deol, Div. 4 teacher, for leading students in this activity.

The students were very impressive with their knowledge, enthusiasm and positivity!

Good luck to the team being sent to Clearbrook Public Library for the Library Reading Link Challenge next Wednesday, March 8.

In our school district's four-year strategic plan, we have targeted improved early learning as a means of impacting student success. At Mathxwí Elementary, all primary classrooms have committed their year to explore practical ways to improve early literacy learning.
