Message from Principal - Update on New Guidelines

February 19, 2021

I want to update you briefly on the new Ministry of Education/Public Health Guidelines for K-12.

In general, we will continue with our current structures and/or general school operation.  The changes are as follows:

*If your child is sick or not feeling well, please access this new website/Health Checklist which will allow you to make a decision about your child attending or returning to school*  Thank you! https://www.k12dailycheck.gov.bc.ca/healthcheck?execution=e1s1

  • All K-12 staff must wear a mask when inside the building except for when they are sitting or standing at their desk and/or when eating or drinking.  There is no requirement for elementary students to wear masks.
  • Try to minimize face to face interactions
  • Try to minimize increased physical exertion in Physical Education
  • If singing, all participants must wear a mask which will limit this activity for students (example: we will not be singing "O Canada" any longer, we will be humming or listening to the music)
  • Try to minimize water fountain use.  Students to use their own water bottles preferably.
  • There is no requirement any longer to quarantine library books. Students can share manipulatives and centers with good hand hygiene.

Reminders for Parents/Requests

  • Please drop students off/send students to school/pick up as close to the start and end times as possible to ensure our staggered start and end times.
  • When on our school grounds outside, please stay 6 feet apart from other parents and students (as per public health and safety guidelines).  While not required, we will support you in wearing a mask while on our campus.  Thank you for doing your part!

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Developed in partnership with Public Health and the BC Centre for Disease Control, and a group of students, the K-12 daily health check website and mobile app help students and families make the best decisions on whether to attend school, stay home, or take other measures. Questions and answers are easy to understand and are based on current health guidelines. All content is written with the K-12 age group in mind.

As indicated in the Provincial COVID-19 Health Safety Guidelines for K-12 Settings, parents and caregivers should assess their children daily for illness before sending them to school. Please share the information about the new K-12 Health Check App with your students and families to make this process easier.
