Principal's Update on Jan.21

Hello Parents/Guardians of Auguston Students,

Winter Weather

If you have looked at the current weather forecast, it is very possible we could be receiving some snow in the near future.  A few reminders and changes to our “Snow” rules if needed:

  • Please send your child with appropriate jacket, gloves, touque, and/or footwear.  We don’t have any extra items at the school.
  • ALL STUDENTS will be expected to go outside regardless of weather/temperature.  Please don’t tell students they are supposed to stay inside for recess and lunch.  We don’t have the supervision capability to watch your child inside. I have to cover staff for lunch and breaks and it is simply not possible for this to occur (this would be the same expectation in a normal year). 
  • Please help us remind your child not to throw snowballs or ice at any time
  • There will be NO SLEDDING and/or SLEDS allowed at the school this year due to Covid-19.  We don’t have the ability to store sleds in halls or classrooms with desks spaced out and hallways sectioned off for students to keep 2 meters apart.  Also, due to students being assigned to one play area per day, there would be confusion about what day they would be allowed to sled, etc.  Students also congregate when sledding, share sleds, and would be breathing heavily going up and down the hill.

Time Change for Lunch and Recess starting Monday, February 1st

As you know, due to Covid 19, we had to implement a staggered lunch and recess.  Currently, Group A Lunch has a longer academic afternoon and B lunch has a shorter academic afternoon.  We decided at the beginning of the year, we would “flip” these two Groups so each teacher and student would have the same experience. Therefore, the following recess and lunch times will start on Feb 1st. 

Group A:  Thind, Sorensen, Preiss/Barkess, van den Ham, Ketelaar, Charest, Ward

  • Recess:  9:56 am to 10:21 am
  • Lunch Play: 11:35 am to 12:05 pm
  • Eat:  12:05 pm to 12:19 pm

Group B:  McAllister, Vandermeer/Elford, Puglisi, Hambly, Heppner/Smith, Small

  • Recess: 10:29-10:54 am
  • Eat:  12:26 pm-12:40 pm
  • Lunch Play: 12:40 pm-1:10 pm

*I decided not to change cohorts for play at this time due to the fact that there are several factors which cause a number of challenges.  I am able to switch co-horts for play within School A and B after Spring Break if I determine this to be appropriate*
