Cross Country for Gr. 4/5

The Auguston Traditional Cross Country Team has started practicing for the up-and-coming season.

This year we will be running cross-country races against other schools in our zone. The races this year will be on MONDAYS - September 22nd, October 6th, and October 20th. All three meets will be held at BATEMAN PARK (NOT the school).

If you wish for your child to participate you need to provide your own transportation to and from the races. When you arrive, please look for the Auguston coach so you can check in and get a jersey if you haven’t received one at school before. The students should report to the Auguston coach 10 minutes before their race, put on a jersey, and begin a warm up and stretching routine.

Cross Country Race Times

• Grade 5 girls will run at 3:15
• Grade 5 boys will run at 3:30
• Grade 4 girls will run at 3:45
• Grade 4 boys will run at 4:00

Practices

Practices will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays at lunch after the eating period starting on Tuesday, September 16th. Please ensure your child's Off Grounds consent is completed in schoolcash. Please remind your child to listen to the announcements regarding practices. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for all types of weather and has a light snack and some water. Students will be encouraged to finish two laps of our entire school property (excluding parking lots) without walking to ensure they will be able to finish the course on race days.

We will work on stretching and pacing during practices. Team members should run once on their own for 10-12 minutes continuously to ensure cardio fitness levels and endurance are sufficient for the course. The race course is approximately 1.2 km.

Parent Volunteers

We will need parent volunteers to supervise the racers at a designated spot along the trail. If you are available to help, please email indicate this in schoolcash or email Tina Howe, PE/LLC Teacher (T-F), at tina.howe@abbyschools.ca. Parents will need to complete volunteer forms for the 2025-26 school year, as well as driver forms if you are driving children other then your own to the meet.

PARENTS MUST SIGN THE PERMISSION FORMS DIGITALLY IN SCHOOL CASH ONLINE for students to participate in the races at Bateman Park.

Please see Extracurricular School Sports Consent to complete if needed in schoolcash (once for Gr. 4/5 students - it will be attached to your child's schoolcash if not received last year).
