Highlights - Board Meeting – Mar. 9, 2021
The Abbotsford Board of Education regularly meets throughout the school year. Agendas and minutes from the public Board Meetings can be accessed through the District's Electronic School Board. Below is a summary of highlights from the meeting. To do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for everyone's safety, all public meetings of the Abbotsford Board of Education will be closed to the public and held virtually until further notice. The meetings will also be live-streamed.
Education
Toti:ltcha Future Learning Plan - Restart Strategy
Superintendent Godden presented a high-level summary of where the district stands in relation to the work of Toti:ltcha, our future learning plan. This included updates on COVID-19 notifications, enhanced health and safety measures, and an update on the FLEX Blended Learning Program.
Local School Calendar for 2021-2022 - Notice of Motion
Superintendent Godden presented a report on the feedback collected from the local school calendar survey. Recommendation was put forward that the Board of Education adopt the revised local school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year.
Community Matters Award - Nominations open for 2021
Superintendent Godden announced that nominations for the 2021 Community Matters Award will open March 10, 2021. While missed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Community Matters Award is presented by the Board of Education once per year to formally recognize community partners who have exceeded their community service mandate and have made a significant, deliberate contribution to Abbotsford School District students.
Operations
New School on Eagle Mountain - Naming Committee
As per Board of Education policy, the ad-hoc facilities naming committee for the new elementary school on Eagle Mountain will consist of two Trustees, the school Principal, the Communications Manager, and up to four community members. Recommendation was put forward that the Board of Education appoints the following community members to the ad-hoc Facilities Naming Committee for the new elementary school on Eagle Mountain: Chris Silver, Tim Folster, Jas Sidhu and Lexi Graugaard.
Eagle Mountain Boundary Review
Secretary-Treasurer Velestuk provided the Board of Education with an update on the Eagle Mountain Boundary Review consultation progress. Feedback on the proposed catchment boundaries for the new elementary school is now being accepted. Parents in the current Mountain Elementary and those affected in McMillan Elementary boundaries have been invited to submit feedback at engage.abbyschools.ca.
2021-2022 Preliminary Budget Estimates
Secretary-Treasurer Velestuk provided the Board of Education with an update on the progress of this year's budget consultation process and outlined the budget assumptions and budget pressures for the 2021-22 budget year. Stakeholders and community members will have opportunities to participate in the 2021-22 Preliminary Budget consultation at a Public Information Meeting on March 11 at 6:30 pm and online at engage.abbyschools.ca.
