Lettuce Planting
Volunteers, we need your help to bring the curriculum to life in the school garden. Students have planted potatoes with their teachers, and it's now time to plant several hundred heads of lettuce with parent help. It takes at least 10 volunteers, for a morning. A month or so later, the students will harvest and enjoy the vegetables together at our wonderful annual Spuds and Salad school lunch. There are a few different roles for parents in the coming weeks:
- Thursday, May 2: plant lettuce in the garden with students, approx. 8:30 to noon
- May 3-15: watering one day per week for 2 weeks, approx. 8:45 to 915am
- mid June: harvest the lettuce and prepare them for a class salad lunch
The entire school garden program is only successful because of parent volunteers. Your time helps us continue this hands-on learning experience that culminates in students willingly eating veggies!!!
Email Emma Hatfield (ehmmie@hotmail.com) if you can volunteer for any of these roles.
Volunteers MUST have the appropriate paperwork valid for the current school year and an approved criminal record check (CRC lasts 5 years).
