Chess Tournament

April 16, 2025

On Saturday, April 12th, Auguston Traditional sent a chess team of 31 students to the Annual Chess Tournament held at Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School. Over 120 students from Kindergarten to grade 12 spent much of the day competing for individual and team trophies. Auguston had a strong team this year. They played extremely well and narrowly finished in first place in the Elementary school category, winning by only a half point! Congratulations to all our team members.

In individual play, Caleb Akuffo took first place in grade four, while Victor Sanchez-Piper got second, and Oliver Spoljar and David Heukelman tied for third. In a heavily contested grade three division, Sebastian Tomlinson came in second and Gibran Ahmed and Amber Attri tied for third. For the grade twos, Hayeong Seong finished in second overall with Ethan Menges taking third. Carson Logan won second place in the grade one division, and Reuben Joberg and Julia Keenan came in third. All the team members played four games each, and everyone contributed to our team's great finish. Special thanks to all the parents who came to help supervise and lend their encouragement to the kids over the course of a long day.
