Principal’s Message from Jun 7

I can’t believe it is June and I am soon to have completed my first year as the Principal at Auguston Traditional Elementary.  I want to thank the hard work by our entire school community to make this school year an amazing one.  We really couldn’t have done any of this without the hard work and organization of Mrs. Tait as she communicates and manages all that we do at Auguston.  The support I have received as a first year Principal here by all of you has been second to none.  I was able to see the proof of the 2018-19 Yearbook yesterday (Thank you, Jenny Donegan, it is amazing! Thank you as well to Sue Shaw-Batt, Paula Guan and other parents & teachers who helped with school photos!) and it was clear to me how busy we all have been and how great of a year it has been!

I want to thank the PAC and parent community for their hard work, volunteerism, and support of the staff and students.  Most recently, the Fun Fair brought our school community together for a night of fun, food, and happiness.  Many hours are needed to make this event such a huge success and it was evident it was time well spent!  I don’t know if I will ever forget the smiling faces I saw trying to put me in the dunk tank (brrrrrr).

I look forward to the year-end festivities as we finish off the last few weeks of the year.  I hope you have a great summer and have lots of time to play, read, relax, and enjoy important family time.

A few updates for this year and next year!

This year:

  • We have decided NOT to have the Parade of Wheels during Sports Day.  It was decided the event was too much to juggle on an already busy day.
  • Instead: We will have Roller Fun* ie. Roller Blade/Skateboard/Scooter/Roller Skate day (no bikes) at lunch for Gr. 3-5 (dates to be determined and weather dependent – watch for an email next week!) and a Hot Wheels contest for K-2 students during Sports Day. * click here for the Jun 11 update to Roller Fun
  • June 14th is the deadline for class requests.  We have received a few questions about this.  Filling this form out is optional/not required.

Next year:

I am still waiting to confirm our possible configuration for next year and therefore unsure of how many Divisions we will have.   We hope to have a better idea between June 15th and end of the school year.
Welcome back to Mrs. Beisiegel who will be back next year.  Ms. Thind will also be back covering Mrs. Sorensen’s maternity leave.

Bell Times 2019-20

*It appears certain we will be changing our start and end time to the day.  The reason for this change is to accommodate the contractual increase in teacher preparation time from 100 minutes to 110 minutes.   Therefore, to ensure lunch is at a reasonable time, we will likely start school at 8:30 am and end the day at 2:30 pm.* Students will still be in school for the same amount of time (293 minutes of instruction).   If you have any questions in regards to this, please feel free to contact me.*
