Grade 6 class completes Community Project: "Character Matters"

Students in Mrs. Sidhu's Grade 6 class at Eugene Reimer Middle School have launched a web page and video that is filled with advice from students, parents, preschoolers and community members. Ten schools from across the Abbotsford School District participated in the project, including Clearbrook Elementary, Blue Jay Elementary, Harry Sayers Elementary, Dave Kandal Elementary, Auguston Elementary, Barrowtown Elementary, Abbotsford Senior Secondary, W.J. Mouat Secondary, Rick Hansen Secondary, Yale Secondary and Green Timbers Elementary from Surrey.

The “Character Matters” video was released on Monday, June 3rd.

What did the students have to say about the project?

A community is a group of people living in the same place and having particular characteristics in common. As students, our goal for the Eugene Reimer Middle School "Character Matters Project" was to have students across Abbotsford from grades K-12 recognize a bit of themselves in each other and our community members. We are proud that this project connects, and strengthens relationships between school, home and community. We gave advice to our younger self by reflecting on our past decisions. This advice was authentic and meaningful and helped us understand who we are. We learned more about Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Courage and Empathy by sharing advice. With so many community members' involvements in this project, we feel inspired, committed and empowered to building a stronger Abbotsford. We would like to thank all the students, parents, teachers and community members that participated and shared their advice.
