What Is The PAC (Parent Advisory Council)?

Every parent or guardian who has a child at Auguston Traditional Elementary is by rights on the P.A.C. (Parent Advisory Council).

The PAC is made up of a group of parent volunteers who take an active role in the activities, events, dress code (uniform) at Auguston Traditional. The PAC is headed by an Executive Committee (PAC President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer…) who guide monthly meetings and will liaison between the Principal, Teachers, and Parents. This committee welcomes your ideas, suggestions, and comments – and will address your concerns at the monthly PAC and/or EXECUTIVE meetings.

Have you ever wondered, what does the PAC actually do??? Well, here is a little list of this year so far....

  • Hot Lunches - money earned and put back into the school - $1993.11
  • Popcorn Days - money earned and put back into the school - $710.29
  • Fall Fun Fair - money earned and put back into the school - $7701.96
  • Scholastic Book Fair - money earned and put back into the school library- $583.23 in cash and approximately $800 in books

How have the students benefited from the earnings you ask???  

The PAC pays for:

  • a charter bus that takes grade 5's on their annual ski trip
  • Stephen Baker, Artist in Residence, who leads students in art lessons
  • new playground equipment, including new basketball court, another spinner, 3 point ball toss, metalyphone (large outdoorxylophone)
  • High Touch High Tech, in-school science programs
  • new chess boards for the Chess Club
  • ribbons for the skipping club participants

What would happen if we didn't have a PAC Executive???  These activities and fundraisers wouldn't get organized and we wouldn't earn these funds for our kids. That would mean that parents would have to pay for these items if they wanted their kids to have them.

Hot Lunch Committee: Helping distribute and deliver lunches to students in their classrooms. One Friday each month for about 45 min

Book Fair Committee: Ordering scholastic book fair and setting up fair in library. Organizing volunteers. Selling books 30 min in morning before school, 45 min over lunch and 1 hour after school. Taking down book fair. Sending sales to Scholastics Canada.

Social Committee: Organize Movie nights, family bbq’s and any fun events for our kids and school. Usually on Friday evenings or after school. Possibly 5 events a year.

Decorating Committee: Decorating the school for variety of holidays.

Emergency Committee: At the beginning of every year purchasing enough water, juice, granola bars and fruit leather for all the children in case of an emergency.

Dress Code Committee: Once a month assist in dress code checks. Ensures that proper procedures are followed when any changes are proposed.

Lost & Found / Used Uniforms Committee: Once a month or as needed, display the lost & found items on tables in the hallway, collect up items to donate to charity. Once a week make sure used uniforms are neatly folded and put away in PAC Room.

Constitution Committee: Performs yearly evaluation of our constitution and bylaws, and works to ensure that the PAC understands and follows established policies and procedures.

Nominations Committee: Calls for nominations for PAC executive and makes sure parents are informed as to the position requirements; oversees the election at the AGM in April.

Yearbook Committee: Prepares an annual school yearbook.
